Touch typing

So, I’ve had my laptop for coming up to two years now and never really cleaned the keyboard until now. However since I normally use my laptop when it’s dark or when I can’t clearly see the keyboard on the screen, I thought it’d be interesting to see how well my touch typing actually was so I decided to put the keys on in all the wrong places as you can see below…

Keyboard with moved around keys

Since I’m a coder by day and night, it’ll be interesting to see if it royally screws me over when trying to find that one key or something like that.

Let the experiment begin!

Chris.

Ahhhh while I find this interesting, you’re going to kick yourself when a deadline is approaching and you can’t find the key you need :P

I touch type most of the time too but there are always moments when you let yourself down and need the visual backup of having the right keys in the right places :P

If I get too stuck I’ve always got the on-screen keyboard. My b key keeps coming off though (formally the n key) :(

Thats a funny idea but I think Dave is right, you maybe will kick yourself when a deadline is approaching :)

It’s actually not been to bad, The biggest problem was slightly snapping one of the keys so it tends to come off and I end up pressing it down and leaving a row of M’s.

I wondered why your response to my site ideas was always “mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm” - and there’s me thinking you just approved.

You know, I’ve tried this before. I had no problems at all until I swapped the ‘F’ and ‘G’ keys - It turns out that instead of using the little bumps on ‘F’ and ‘J’, I was eyeballing where my fingers were.

Still, it’s an interesting thing to do to improve your typing. If you’re not quite a touch-typer, try changing 2-3 keys a week, it does improve your typing no end.
